Media Globalization Quiz

1. "Globalization is characterized by both the dominance and convergence of global capitalism." The emergence and global dominance by these companies or conglomerates are based solely upon capitalism. The larger corporations buy out the smaller organizations and then become globalized and allows people around the world to have access to these conglomerates. People are gaining more access to advertisement as well, enabling these companies to become more globalized.
2. The new information and technology being produced and introduced have enabled everyone to have access to communicate almost anywhere in the world. They have created cell phones that have internet access and now computers have wireless flash drives that enables computers to have wireless internet anywhere they please. The internet is also on a network that is almost as instant as it possibly can be. The ongoing change of the technology and improvement of the technology has enabled media globalization to continue. The new i-phone enables a consumer to use the internet, make a phone call, download almost anything, listen to music, send messages, send e-mails, take pictures, play games, and many more.
4. We are now developed into a world that has access to almost anything. If you visit another country you will notice they do have some similar cultural themes. You may notice they have the same restaurants as you do (McDonald's or Pizza Hut), you may notice that they play the same games as you do (video games), and you may notice that they have similar interest in popular music as you do (boy bands). It has become Globally Cultural and we may not be as culturally different anymore as we once were.

Media Globalization could have negative affects. Some of the industries are created for just one country and if it becomes globalized it may have different outcomes. People in other countries may have negative responses towards the product or interests being introduced, while people in our country may love it. Although we are being globalized different countries still have different cultures. It is a deregulated environment for these conglomerates. Also, the larger companies are buying out the smaller ones and companies such as GE who create jet engines, nuclear power for electricity, and satellite systems are also doing television news because they own 80 percent of NBC. This enables some worry for people of whether or not these larger companies can do a good job with reporting on their activities of their fellow companies. Another worry people have is the access to certain types of technology. Some people can afford these new technologies and other can not, enabling people to be more globalized than others. This enables a division in societies, not by countries, but by the rich and the poor. I believe this information is valid because I can see it happening first hand. I noticed today that people with i-phones have access to the internet anywhere at any time, while other people who could not afford the i-phone has just a phone and in order to use the internet they have to find a computer or a laptop. Also, I hear about companies, especially today during the economy downfall, merging and buying out smaller companies in order to increase their profits and globalize. I believe that it will continue to happen more and more as long as technology is still improving and we should develop new ideas to learn to cope with the idea of media globalization.
